Religious Education

The mission of the Religious Education Program is to provide a safe and sacred space to assist children into becoming articulate, grounded Unitarian Universalists. We are a cooperative program, providing value and spiritual guidance for our children and youth, based on the 7 Principles of Unitarian Universalism.

7 Principles of Unitarian Universalism ~ Children’s Version

that each and every person is important
that all people should be treated fairly and kindly
that we should accept one another and keep on learning together
that each person must be free to search for what is true and right in life
that all persons should have a vote about the things that concern them
in working for a peaceful, fair, and free world
in caring for our planet earth, the home we share with all living things

We believe:

6 Sources of Unitarian Universalist Principles ~ Children’s Version

Our Principles come from:

  • the experience of life, itself
  • words and deeds of wise men and women
  • lessons from all religions that help us tell right from wrong
  • Jewish and Christian traditions that teach us to love one another
  • science and reason
  • Earth-centered teachings about caring for our world and all living things.

RE Classes generally focus on 4 subject areas:

  • Religions of the World
  • Jewish and Christian Scriptures
  • Unitarian Universalist Heritage and Principles
  • Ethical Living

Multigenerational Service

Several times throughout the church year, worship service is specifically created for all ages to attend. RE classes are not held on these days but the nursery remains available for ages 3 and under. This gives children the opportunity to experience worship with their adult friends, which can be enjoyable for all involved.
