Join us on Sunday, May 28 at 11:00 a.m. for a Memorial Day Service with Rev. Inanna Arthen: “We Remember Them.”
Memorial Day began as Decoration Day, a time when families and communities cared for the graves of soldiers who had died in service—initially, those who had died in the Civil War. It can be a tough holiday for UUs to grapple with. How do we deplore war and vow to end it forever, dedicating ourselves to peace, and at the same time honor the courage and self-sacrifice of those who died in military service? How do we best remember our fallen soldiers?
We’ll be meeting up in the sanctuary now that it’s spring and the warm days are returning. The younger RE students will join us for the first part of the service, as the older kids meet for their “Questing” class. At 11:30, the younger students will have their “Beginnings” class while the older ones come out to participate with the adults.
